Nevada Elks Drug Awareness Program

My name is Rick Stone, and I am the chairperson for the Nevada State Elks Drug Awareness Program. I recently attended a drug awareness training seminar in Atlanta, GA. We had a presentation given by the community outreach director for the DEA. This presentation was about the counterfeit pills that are being flooded into this country, and they contain Fentanyl. These counterfeit pills being produced are Adderall, Oxycodone, and Xanex. The counterfeit pills do not contain any of the ingredients that are used in the legitimate manufacturing of them. They contain fillers and Fentanyl and are stamped to look just like the real thing. They are so good that the only way to tell is through analysis. Through this analysis the DEA has found that 4 out of ten pills contain a lethal dose of Fentanyl (2mg). The reason that the pills are inconsistent is that they are mixed in blenders, cement mixers, and even bathtubs. The Mexican cartels set up their labs in fields and abandoned buildings to produce these pills in large batches. The pills are then smuggled across the border into the US, where they are sold on the street and on the web. The main target is high school and college-age kids; the main intent is to get them hooked on opioids, thus ensuring the future of the Cartel's business. However, with the inconsistency of the mixture, many users will die from the overdose. Thus, the phrase that has become a literal one is “one pill can kill.” So, parents, grandparents, neighbors, group leaders, and especially teachers, please take the time to learn about this threat, and you may save a life of someone you know. This information can be found on the Elksdap.org website under Emerging Drug Threat: Counterfeit Pills. To quote the agent, “This is like playing Russian roulette with a 5-chamber revolver with two bullets loaded, not good odds.”
